For long, researchers have studied the health benefits and the shortcomings of coffee. The beverage continues to pique the interest of researchers to date. The Annals of Internal Medicine recently published two studies, which claim that drinking coffee reduces the likelihood of dying from a myriad of diseases. In one of the studies, over 185, 000 Americans were examined. The study showed that those who drank either caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee had a reduced risk of dying from diabetes, stroke, cancer and heart disease.
The pattern was the same in Whites, Latinos, Japanese Americans and African Americans. According to the lead author of the study, Veronica W. Setiawan, a similar pattern across varying populations gives the argument a stronger biological backing. Follow Organo Gold on Facebook.
Participants who drank two to three cups of coffee each day had an 18 percent decrease in the risk compared to those who never did over the 16-year test period. During the study, the group reported and updated their coffee drinking habits after every five years.
The other study surveyed more than 520, 000 individuals from 10 European countries. It also found that participants who drank coffee every day had a lower risk of dying than those who did not. While the results are good news to those who indulge in this beverage, the study did not identify why coffee has these benefits or a causal relationship of the same.
